Professional Experience

• Martin Hu is a Senior Partner of MHP Law Firm with around 30 years of legal experience. He is qualified to practice in the PRC and previously practiced corporate and tax law in Ohio, USA.
  Martin focuses on M&A, cross-border investment, financing and restructuring matters, and complex corporate disputes. He has served as lead counsel for numerous multinational corporations and financial institutions in major transactions and high-stakes disputes. His representative clients include P&G, Amsted, Coventry University, China Pacific Insurance Group, and Shanshan Group.
  Martin has been consistently recognized by Chambers and Partners as a Leading Lawyer in Corporate/M&A since 2009, and is currently ranked as an Eminent Practitioner in the Chambers Greater China Region. He is also actively involved in legislative and arbitration institutions in Shanghai.

Representative Experience

• Advised Shanshan Group as lead counsel on its US$200 million acquisition of LG Chem’s SP business (OLED and automotive display materials) in Korea, Vietnam, and China, involving the M&A financing arrangement. Provided comprehensive legal services throughout the transaction, including due diligence, deal structuring, negotiation, and closing. Successfully resolved a complex last-minute tax issue, demonstrating strategic adaptability and execution capability.

• Advised a leading insurance group on a series of credit and guarantee insurance disputes totaling RMB 500 million, providing strong legal representation in court and strategic advice on claims handling and recovery.

• Advised a leading financial institution on a RMB 400 million cross-border financing project involving the UK, Japan, and Spain, coordinating multi-jurisdictional legal opinions to ensure the enforceability of financing documentation across multiple jurisdictions.

• Advised a major international bank on an anti-terrorism compliance and anti-money laundering investigation in collaboration with a prominent New York law firm, and supported settlement negotiations before a U.S. court, ensuring regulatory compliance and efficient dispute resolution.

• Advised a leading commercial bank in a landmark RMB 1 billion loan recovery case before the Shanghai Financial Court, achieving judicial confirmation of mediation and setting a model for efficient and cost-effective financial dispute resolution.

• Advised a major joint-stock commercial bank in a loan contract dispute with a large real estate group, achieving full recovery of principal, interest, and compound interest through mediation confirmed by court ruling.

• Advised a national commercial bank in a financial loan dispute with an individual borrower, securing full repayment through pre-judgment preservation and mediation.

• Advised a regional financial institution in a complex infrastructure contract dispute involving a local development entity, providing strategic counsel to ensure commercial recovery and project continuity.
